ECS Engineering Services delivers 49 duct cradles for nuclear power station

ECS’ in-house fabrication department has recently completed the manufacture of 49 steel duct cradles destined for the main reactor building at a UK nuclear power plant. Each of the duct cradles required fabrication to the highest standards, with ECS engineers delivering all of the structures within six months.

Supplying steelwork to the nuclear sector is a demanding project for a fabricator. ECS is accredited to provide steelwork under BS EN 1090 for CE marking up to Execution Class 4 (EXC4). EXC4 is applicable only to facilities of the highest consequence class, such as nuclear power stations. This accreditation ensured ECS could offer the required quality of steel fabrication and welding procedures to carry out the project effectively.

Research heralds ‘step change’ in fluid injection injury care

Medical research commissioned by the Water Jetting Association has led to the publication of the most comprehensive guidance ever created for the management of high-pressure fluid injection injuries.

The guidance is set to transform the emergency medical response to fluid injection injuries, where fluids enter the body by piercing the skin, greatly reducing the risk of death, long-term disability or unnecessarily prolonged periods of recovery.

Where There’s A Mill, There’s A Way: Babcock Wanson Provides Urgent Process Heaters For Flour Miller

Babcock Wanson has supplied flour millers Whitworth Bros. Ltd. with two TPC Thermal Fluid Heaters for its flour heat treatment process at its Barlby Road, Selby site.

A new customer for Babcock Wanson, Whitworth Bros. had been using another manufacturer’s thermal fluid heater, originally installed in 2004 as part of a complete process install project. “Support from the other company had been very poor over the years” states Alan Boyce, Whitworth Bros. Engineering Manager, “and in August 2018 the heater suffered a catastrophic failure of the heating coils rendering it useless.” With the incumbent company unable to supply a swift solution, and Whitworth Bros. productivity directly affected, they turned to Babcock Wanson.

Climeon wins order in the United Kingdom

Climeon has won a first order in the United Kingdom worth SEK 19.7 million, including software licenses and service fees. The order is the first where Climeon’s Heat Power modules will be utilized to recover waste heat from reciprocating engines based on natural gas.

We are very proud of this first order within power plants based on reciprocating engines, an industry with a strong growth potential. Power plants based on reciprocating engines are often used to balance solar and wind power plants and our Heat Power modules both increase efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide emissions, says Thomas Öström, CEO of Climeon.
