IRISS INSPECTION WINDOWS CONFORM TO EVEN MORE STANDARDS

IRISS, the manufacturer of the world’s only industrial-grade infrared windows capable of meeting durability and impact requirements, stands out from its competitors in many ways and it has now added more differentiators to the list. The company has just completed environmental testing for compliance with additional standard ratings on three of its product ranges.

The move widens the scope of these products across Europe and internationally, providing the system builder and specifier with a choice of certifications to suit the application and to meet customer preference.IRISS has pushed the boundaries on the build quality of its IR and inspection windows and these new standards confirm their superiority.

Industrial-grade VPFR (viewing pane fixed reinforced) infrared windows from IRISS have a patented reinforced optic which enables thermographers to survey critical electrical applications efficiently and safely.IRISS has confirmed that these products are now certified to UL50E and NEMA environmental ratings 1,2,3,3R and 5.This is in addition to UL50V, IEEE C37, UL 746C, UL 508A, ANSI UL 508A, IP65/NEMA 4 and Lloyds of London approval.

The new standards also apply to the IRISS VP12, the world’s first ultrasound port for identifying faults such as arcing, tracking and corona in electrical distribution systems and switchgear.

IRISS Custom Application Products, the CAP Series, also have extended certification. These are the world’s first square IR windows which can be supplied in any size to suit the application. They now hold UL and NEMA ratings 1, 2, 3, 3R, 5, 12, 12K and 13 (as designated by UL).

The UL and NEMA standards apply to enclosures for electrical equipment intended to be installed and used in non-hazardous locations.Types 3 and 3R are for outdoor installation and the remaining types, for indoors.

In addition to the environmental ratings the products also conform to UL 1558 which is a standard that covers metal-enclosed, low voltage power circuit breaker switchgear enclosures.Whilst this standard is for less than 600V it is one that is universally accepted and therefore an important addition to the IRISS certification list.

At the opposite end of the scale IRISS also meets the impact and load requirements for IEE C37.20.2 (A.3.6) which covers installations up to and including 38,000V, another factor that distinguishes IRISS products from others on the market.

“IRISS windows are the most tested windows available,” said CEO Martin Robinson. “Customers have been installing our windows outdoors for many years without any problems.Achieving the relevant UL and NEMA ratings was the next logical and defining step for us.They confirm that direct exposure to bearing rain does not interfere with the successful operation of our windows, ensuring the components stay dry within the rated enclosure.”
