Compressed Air/Compressors

Sauer's WP 5000 in service against pirates

sauer-april-3Applying the new concept of intensive use, the most state-of-the-art ship in the German Navy is currently in development: the F125-class frigate.
The ship is designed for prolonged defence, prevention and counterintelligence operations, e.g. against pirates. Contrary to previous practice, it will be deployed with half of the crew and enormous maintenance intervals for missions of up to two years or 5,000 hours of operations at sea.
Ensuring smooth operations with little personnel requires the use of highly automated, low-maintenance facilities. For the compressed air, the central high-pressure air system already used with success on the K130 Braunschweig-class corvette was selected.
Its installation allows for a flexible provision of compressed air with a simultaneous reduction of required components, space, weight, maintenance and costs.
The central elements of this system are two watercooled HP compressors from the Sauer's 5000 series. With long maintenance intervals, and also in conjunction with integrated low-maintenance membrane dryers, they are ideally designed for intensive use and enjoy the best references from navies worldwide.
The first F 125 is expected to go into commission in 2016. Three more are set to follow – with Sauer on board, of course.
