What is red diesel?

Red diesel refers to a normal diesel that has been dyed to show it is for use on untaxed off-road vehicles or equipment. Historically this distinction would see red diesel achieve a low duty rate. But from 1^st April 2022, red diesel will no longer be made available at a rebated rate for most commercial applications. This covers the majority of users in the construction industry. This reform was announced by the Government a couple of years ago as part of the ongoing task to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Losing tax-free status and business entitlement means viable alternatives to red diesel have had to be found. As with any major industry change, accepting these changes and flexibly adapting as soon as possible is in the best interest of all involved.

GAINING a master’s degree has whetted an engineer’s appetite to develop his skills and knowledge of the industry even further.

With the support of his employer, engineering company Forth, Rob Sneesby is continuing on his education journey by committing to study for further industry specific qualifications.

With the goal of acquiring Chartered Engineer status, Rob is working towards completing further professional development in 2022 via an APM Project Professional Qualification having already gained his APM Project Management Qualification, as well as a New Engineering Manager course.

The 29-year-old fitted his studies for his Master of Science (MSc) degree in Mechanical Engineering around his full-time role as Senior Mechanical Engineer at Forth’s Barrow-in-Furness base, and he is looking forward to learning more methods and techniques which he can adapt to his daily work.

The cinema group needed a clean and efficient solution to remove various small spills in cinemas, both behind the scenes and in publicly accessible areas.
