The importance of compressed air leek detection using the FLIR Si124-LD

Every business wants to run as efficiently as possible, for both environmental and commercial reasons too. With over-arching global challenges such as working towards a net-zero existence, and increased competition it is vital to be as effective and cost efficient as possible.

Compressed air systems are one area of production, process and manufacturing where efficiencies can be made, as typically there will be multiple leaks on any compressed air system. Even the most efficient system will develop leaks over time through repeated usage, wear-and-tear, and component degradation. Air leaks ultimately lead to compressors being ran for longer than necessary, or additional compressors being installed to keep-up with the leaking air demand.

Compounding the impact of these inefficiencies is the cost of energy which is at an all-time high, so not only are compressed air systems wasting energy, but they are costing significant amounts of money too, ultimately impacting the profitability of businesses, products and services.

Compressed air leak detection is nothing new, with various types of equipment traditionally being used to find leaks to varying degrees of success however, the FLIR Si124-LD acoustic imaging camera has set new standards in the ease of use, the accuracy of leak detection and the simplicity of reporting too.

Using 124 built-in microphones to produce a precise image which is overlaid in real time on a digital camera picture, the user can pinpoint a leak, capture an image or short video, and connect wirelessly to reporting software to record the location, severity and associated details.

Compared to traditional air leak detection methods, the Si124-LD can detect leaks up to 10 times faster, leaving more time available to fully seal leaks, saving time, reducing operating expenses and minimising energy
