Fluke Networks announces expanded network connectivity testing for LinkIQ™ Cable+Network Tester

: Fluke Networks announces an upgrade to its LinkIQ™ Cable+Network Tester that expands the tester’s ability to test and troubleshoot IP networks, and support users in 12 languages. This new software is shipping in all new LinkIQ units and is available as a free upgrade to existing customers.

“While systems integrators and network administrators need to verify cabling performance to ensure network performance, they also need to ensure that the user’s traffic can reach its destination,” stated Robert Luijten, Field Marketing Director, Fluke Networks.

“Our network test features give these professionals visibility into network connectivity and response time of key resources, allowing them to verify and troubleshoot end-to-end network issues.”

The new release includes:

  • Expanded network testing – With version 1.1, customers can now verify connectivity and response time to key network devices with one touch of the screen. LinkIQ can now be configured to perform IPv4 or v6 ping tests and will display the response time for four pings to a target device of the user’s choosing. The test results display the DNS and DHCP servers and the gateway router. LinkIQ also displays the IP address of the nearest switch. The new version of LinkWare PC includes this information in its test reporting.
  • Two-pair cable tests – Cable performance tests up to 100 Mb/s can be specified for two-pair cables, widely used in industrial environments.
  • Language support – The LinkIQ user interface now supports 12 languages.
  • Reporting – A new version of the LinkWare™ PC software, the industry's de facto reporting solution, is also available. This new version provides reports including the expanded network testing, allowing users to document their work.

TLV launches QuickStation QS10 Steam Trap Station

The QuickStation QS10’s compact, all-in-one design and reliable operation enables simple, inline trap installation in either the horizontal or vertical plane in minutes. It is constructed from stainless-steel for durability and corrosion resistance and is suitable for applications with maximum operating temperature of 185ºC and maximum operating pressure of 10 barg.

The four models in the QS10 range are offered with multiple piping arrangements and either single or double upstream/downstream isolation valves. An integrated strainer helps to prevent equipment damage or production issues due to entrained material, and an integral check valve prevents backflow.

Smartening up temperature control

A smart power controller does what it says on the tin. It is smart because it has a microprocessor and sophisticated programming. It controls power using sensors that monitor voltage and current, adapting and making decisions as conditions change within the parameters of the application that it’s being used. However, it’s a valuable tool that is often overlooked. Here, Eric Rios, product manager for controls at Watlow, explores why smart power control is vital in heating applications.

There are many types of power switches that are used in commercial and industrial applications. Mechanical relays and contactors are ideal for applications where they are not switched very often because they are relatively inexpensive and do not produce much heat. But for precise control of electric heating, these switch types are a poor choice because they wear out and fail quickly if switched frequently. In this instance, smart power controllers are a sensible choice.

Hammond’s new IP69/IP69K HYJ and HYPB stainless enclosures for hygienic applications

Hammond Electronics’ new HYJ Series IP69/IP69K 304 stainless steel enclosures are designed for use in manufacturing areas where maintaining hygiene standards and avoiding contamination build-up are critical considerations. They withstand regular high temperature, high pressure washdown and there are no dirt traps where contaminants could gather. The family is initially available in five sizes from 202 x 124 x 102 to 416 x 338 x 203mm. The symmetric rectangular design means that the units can be vertically or horizontally surface mounted. All sides slope to ensure that water quickly drains off after spray cleaning, and a super-smooth finish stops water pooling. There are no slotted screw heads, quarter turn latches or welded mounting brackets which can be difficult to clean areas; the front cover is secured to the body with crevice-free hex head bolts fitted with an external silicone washer.

The distinctive blue coloured "hygiene" silicone gasket is fitted beyond the cover edges and it is easily removable for cleaning or replacement. To eliminate difficult to clean areas behind the enclosure, stand-offs, available in four different lengths, ensure that the HYJ is fixed well proud of the wall so that all faces can be washed down.

Simultaneously launched are the complementary HYPB pushbutton family for machine and process control.
