After recently celebrating 20 years providing flow meter rental solutions to industry, Flowhire will be at the Birmingham NEC this week at the leading Chemical Industry Tradeshow CHEMUK which opens its doors on the 15^th and 16^th September.

Flowhire which is the sister company of batching and flow metering solutions provider Flowquip, offer a wide range of flow meters to the chemical industry for applications where a permanent installation isn’t necessary. These applications include; fire hydrant testing for accurate measurement of water from stand pipes, air, gas and steam flow meters for energy monitoring and testing compressor and boiler efficiency. Flowhire’s large range of meters include Turbine, Electromagnetic, Coriolis and Vortex flow meters, as well as the popular Ultrasonic ‘clamp on’ flow meters.

This newly extended award-winning range of HDC Chisels now has a superior ergonomic design and 11 different blade widths up to 40mm.

HDC Chisels are designed for jobs on site that need strength and precision for accurate chiselling work.

All the blades are forged using a unique steel formula into a one-piece I-beam construction for strength and rigidity with a robust profile for extreme breaking strength and a design that maximises power transmission downwards through the tool.

Not many instrumentation companies can claim to have 40 years experience supplying metering solutions to the chemical industry. Nordic Iron Ore appointed ABB to scope process control and management systems for a future-proof and fully-digitalized mining operation at the Blötberget iron ore mine

Global technology company ABB has provided mine design consultancy and recommended scope of supply for the opening of the former Blötberget mine near Ludvika in the Dalarna region of Sweden. The mine, which has been closed since 1979, is being redeveloped by mining company Nordic Iron Ore and is transitioning from study phase towards construction.

ABB’s recommendation addresses automation, digitalization and electrification for long-term, safe, sustainable and efficient mining operations at the site. The technology provider analyzed a Detailed Feasibility Study by Nordic Iron Ore and has made a significant advancement on the definitions and scope of supply of the automation and electrification aspects of the mine.

The British Compressed Air Society (BCAS) is pleased to report that EAL, part of the Enginuity group, has been selected as the end point assessor organisation (EPAO) for the new Compressed Air and Vacuum Technician apprenticeship, meaning employers can begin enrolling candidates from as early as September.

Working with its members and the Institute for Apprenticeships and Education (IfATE), the BCAS Training and Development Committee has been instrumental in the development of the new apprenticeship. It recognises the vital importance of developing the specific engineering skills required in the compressed air and vacuum industry, helping to release funding to develop the engineers of the future.

How to Improve Efficiency of Pumped Storage Hydropower Plants 

Given the critical role pumped hydro storage plays in being a clean, low-cost and renewable energy storage system, is simply maintaining key hydropower equipment (such as Kaplan and Francis turbines) enough?

Or, should a more rigorous approach be undertaken to intrinsically ‘improve’ the efficiency at pumped storage hydropower plants for the long term?
