Norton Clipper launches new blades for multiple applications

After increasingly high demand, Norton Clipper’s coveted range has broken new ground with movement into four new application sectors:

Wood and composites: Built for power, precision and durability, these tools encompass solutions for hard and soft wood, wooden panels, OSB, MDF, and HDF.

Multi-materials: These blades are designed to cut construction timbers, pallets, nails and non-ferrous metals, without damage to the blade itself.

Veneer and laminates: Whether cutting melamine faced boards, plywood, laminated panels or sheets of HPL, this range has a professional blade to suit.

Aluminium: This is Norton Clipper’s specialist range of blades, suited to cutting aluminium, brass, and copper.

Linear Actuators The Preferred Solution For Agricultural OEMS

In the past, agricultural OEMs had two choices when it came to selection of actuators for applications such as folding sprayer booms: hydraulic or pneumatic. However, the latest generation of linear actuators, such as the H-Track from Thomson Industries, a leading brand of the Altra Industrial Motion Corp., is offering the required performance without any of the traditional drawbacks of hydraulic or pneumatic actuators.

Pneumatic and hydraulic actuators require supporting systems to operate. Naturally this takes up space on a vehicle platform, space that is often at a premium as manufacturers move to improve vehicle packaging. Pipes make installation more difficult, which takes up time on the production line and during maintenance work.

Hart active at Acton

Hart Door Systems has completed the installation of seven insulated roller shutters at London Underground’s Acton Works maintenance facility in west London.

Kyle Pendergood at Hart Doors says the contract included the installation of a three tonnes shutter which was 11.8m wide and 4.4m high. 

“Its weight alone was significant as was the width,” says Kyle. “We had a detailed lifting plan to make this work. The Hart team again rose to the challenge.”

Vibration monitoring on equipment such as cranes, hoists and screw jacks has traditionally been difficult.  These are often driven by an electric motor rotating at perhaps 1500 rpm, but the final hoist drum or travel wheel rotates far slower – perhaps only a few rpm- with intermediate shafts rotating at speeds somewhere between these values. 

Conventional vibration monitoring is difficult because you need to place sensors in line with each of the bearings on each of these different speed shafts, which is not only time consuming, it can be very difficult to access – especially to try and take readings when the crane is in operation.

Interfaces for Machine Vision

Machine vision interfaces typically come in two flavors: dedicated and consumer.

Dedicated interfaces; Useful for applications where extremely high-speeds or ultra high-resolution necessitate the use of such interfaces; for example, line-scan cameras used to inspect continuous flow processes like paper or plastic film production where cameras frequently work in the kHz range. However, these interfaces tend to be significantly more expensive, less flexible and add to system complexity. CarmeraLink (supports up to 6.8Gbit/s of data) and CoaXPress (supports up to 12Gbit/s) are dedicated machine vision interfaces typically used in such applications. In addition to the cameras, systems using these interfaces require frame grabbers. These are specialized adapter cards to receive image data and assemble it into usable images. Dedicated machine vision interfaces also use proprietary cables, making integration with other peripherals a little more challenging.
