Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2023 is nearly upon us.

In early February, the worlds of mechanical engineering and electronics will converge at the Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre, where hundreds of exhibitors will explain to thousands of enthusiastic visitors how they can raise the efficiency and productivity of their manufacturing and other industrial activities.

The international, multidisciplinary exhibition is a showcase not just for UK and Irish firms, but for companies from continental Europe and further afield. The enormous diversity of products and services means that it is an ideal venue for addressing multiple sourcing requirements efficiently.

Among the stands that will be of interest are those featuring materials for bonding, sealing and other applications.Chiltern Connections supplies silicones, adhesives, resins and thermal interface materials to the automotive, aerospace, LED, wearable technologies and electronics industries.Conro Electronics is an authoriseddistributor for leading brands such as Humiseal, Indium, Henkel Loctite and MetcalElantasEurope's portfolio includes melting resins for bonding and vibration protection, adhesives for bonding and sealing, and thermal interface materials for eMobility.

Other names in this area aretechnical adhesive tape supplierElder EngineeringHitek Electronic Materials, which specialises inhigh performance epoxy encapsulants and adhesives, technical tape providerPPI Adhesive Products, andRobafoam, which specialises in equipment forrobotic application of 2D and 3D compression jointsand foam seals.

Ecotile will be at the show to explain the advantages of industrial flooringbased onits low-maintenance, interlocking tiles that solve damaged flooring problems. Recyclable and fire retardant, they can be fitted easily over any hard subfloor to enhance workplace safety, as is currently the case in manymanufacturing facilities, warehouses and environmentswhere forklift use is heavy

Health, safety and sustainability guidance is offered by machining coolants, oils, lubricants and greases supplier Oemeta UK, which is always seeking to place itself in the forefront of meeting regulatory requirements and is constantly developing new technologies in response to customer requests. In the area of training, Advanced Rework Technology is one of the longest-running IPC certification centres in Europe, offering all levels of IPC training that plays a key role in bringing safety as well as value to the electronics industry.

Environmental control is another hot topic and there will be many exhibitors contributing to the goal of ensuring clean working conditions. Brownell designs and manufactures equipment to protect against high humidity and atmospheric-related issues, whileDustcontrol supplies extraction and centralised vacuum systems.Dycem offers similar solutions and Filtermistproducts and services ensure the air in factories is free from oil, mist, dust, smoke, VOCs and other contaminants.

Well worth a visit will be the stand of Process Parameters, an established UK manufacturer of industrial temperature sensors including thermocouples and platinum resistance thermometers. The company is also a distributor for Optris, which develops and manufactures infrared sensors and thermal cameras for non-contact surface temperature measurementin a wide variety of applications within manufacturing involving plastics, metals and glass.

Alongside the exhibition and demonstration areas, over the three days there will be an extensive technical seminar programme, which will be especially strong this time. It will give visitors and exhibitors alike valuable learning opportunities, with a particular focus on the technical, managerial and environmental issues facing manufacturers today.

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2023 opens from 7th to 9th February and will co-locate again with AutoAero, a specialist theme within the exhibition devoted to aerospace and automotive engineering. There is a regular, free bus service between Farnborough’s Main and North Camp railway stations and the show. Admission and parking are also free of charge.
