Ventilation-based cooling solutions that can help you fight Covid-19, keep costs down and productivity up

Safety in workplaces has been brought to the forefront of business agendas in recent months, with the control of bacteria being more important than ever. Many facilities that relied on air conditioning to keep temperatures down have had to re-think their cooling solutions due to the hazards associated with the recirculation of air.

Thankfully for facilities managers, there is a cooling solution that is an effective alternative to air conditioning that will keep your people, processes and products cool, whilst diluting the bacteria in the air and creating a safer working environment. EcoCooling’s evaporative coolers use fresh air to cool large spaces and are the ideal solution for maintaining internal temperatures below 25°C all year round.

A safe way to cool

A recent NHS hospital installation affirms the merits of the EcoCooling solution for keeping bacteria levels at bay. Previous to the installation, Ely hospital has relied on air conditioning which recirculated the air and the build up of bacteria. By opting for a fresh air solution, the hospital can dilute the bacteria in the air and therefore minimise the risk of infection.

Effective and low cost

Not only is it safe but an EcoCooling unit will also save you 90% of the operating cost and up to 50% of the capital spend, compared to refrigeration-based air conditioning.

The solution is so cost effective due to the combination of ventilation and evaporative cooling, which requires no mechanical refrigeration. So, on colder days, where additional cooling isn’t required, you can take advantage of the system’s ventilation-only mode and significantly reduce your costs. On the days when evaporative cooling is enabled a standard unit will cost you less than 14p per hour to run, which is considerably less than the air conditioning alternative.

The green credentials of evaporative coolers are as impressive as the cost savings due to the low energy usage, meaning you don’t have to choose between having effective cooling and being environmentally-friendly.

An industrial solution

Evaporative cooling ideal for industrial settings, as unlike air conditioning, it is designed for cooling large spaces. The fresh air technology means that open doors and windows have no adverse effect on performance and running costs. The versatility of this method enables you to blanket cool whole depots or spot cooling hot areas of a production line.

Available in several different configurations, EcoCoolers are suitable for installation in any building. What’s more, the system can be fitted retrospectively or as part of a new build project, so it’s completely flexible. With over 3000 installations worldwide, EcoCooling is a trusted and experienced UK manufacturer.

The solution in action

Manufacturers of bespoke vacuum-formed plastic packaging, Thermoform, was looking for a new evaporative cooling solution that could moderate the temperature in its factory during the increasingly warm summer months. Having experience with industrial evaporative cooling, Thermoform knew this was the right solution for cooling its factory.

Following an analysis of the different evaporative coolers available, Thermoform selected EcoCooling as it’s chosen manufacturer due to the effectiveness and efficiency of the units compared to others on the market.

Three wall-mounted, down discharge EcoCoolers were installed along with four-way plenums to allow cold air to be directed to the areas that needed it most.

Thermoform is impressed with its new cooling solution, from the ease of installation to the effectiveness of the units. The use of spot cooling, coupled with a 35% increase in fresh air, compared to the equivalent old system means Thermoform has a more effective cooling system, which keeps their people and processes cool all year round.
