Manufacturers turn to advanced disinfection to protect against Covid-19

Manufacturers are using an innovative disinfection process that provides additional protection for employees against Covid-19 while helping to maintain production.

The electrostatic anti-viral spray system, provided by emergency FM specialist SafeGroup, destroys Covid-19 and bonds to surfaces so remains active for longer than standard treatments.

It is providing vital additional Covid-19 protection that underpins social distancing and other hygiene measures by minimising the risk of transmission from person to surface to person.

Manufacturers using the disinfection service include the brickmaker Michelmersh. SafeGroup has been carrying out regular treatment of high touch points across the company’s factory in Telford, Shropshire, including production areas, offices, and heavy plant.

Amy Harris, Group Health, Safety and Training Manager for Michelmersh, said: “We want to ensure a safe environment for staff and customers, along with peace of mind that the working environment is being regularly disinfected and protected.

“SafeGroup’s Covid-19 treatment service has become a key part of our strategy to maintain a low-risk environment and has been welcomed openly by all our staff.”

The advanced broad-spectrum disinfectant used is greater than 99.99% effective against Covid-19 as well as other viruses, bacteria, and mould. It is also non-toxic and food safe.

The electrostatic spray system ionises the disinfectant. This greatly enhances surface coverage and bonding and increases productivity, which controls treatment costs. As the chemical is delivered as an ultra-fine spray, it is safe to use on a range of electrical and desktop IT equipment.

SafeGroup also provides a Covid-19 testing service. Surface swab samples sent to an international laboratory. Results are then returned within 72 hours. All treatment elements are backed by certification.

Chris MacDonald, Strategic Business Director for SafeGroup, said: “Many manufacturers have particular challenges when creating a Covid-19 secure environment, especially in production areas.

“Maintaining two-metre social distancing is not always possible and many team members will be in Covid-19 high risk groups. Our disinfection service addresses these issues head on by integrating with infection control plans to maximise Covid-19 protection.”
