For their 2008 Christmas charity project, Beko Technologies Ltd chose to help a local scout group, Scouting was 101 years old in 2008! 1st Malvern Link Scout, based at Redland Road in Malvern received a cheque so they could buy much needed equipment for outdoor activities. The Scout group has grown in recent years after being taken over by leader Andy Massey, it now has 29 members and is approaching full capacity. The children take part in weekly activities, often outdoors in all weathers, and this is where Beko was able to help. The donation was used for climbing rope, emergency bags and a large emergency shelter as well as cooking equipment. Andy Massey said “With this new gear we’re able to attempt more adventurous activities, which benefits the kids here and allows them to develop skills which can be used all their lives.”
Richard Spires, General manager of Beko UK visited the Scout hut to see the equipment for himself “It is heart-warming, in times when youngsters get often negative media coverage, to see children working together and planning some pretty challenging outdoor activities” he said after the visit “ I’m very happy for Beko to support the Scouting movement in its work with children, who after all provide the workforce of the future. Therefore this is also an investment in our economy as a whole, and is part of Beko’s commitment to Worcestershire as a responsible company”
