The solution in action
When a leading manufacturer, Herman Miller was looking for a ventilation and cooling solution at its PortalMill production site, EcoCooling had the answer.
The company needed a system that was suitable for the open nature of the facility and would keep areas prone to overheating cool whilst being cost effective and environmentally friendly. In its search for an effective solution, Herman Miller found UK manufacturer, EcoCooling.
Nine EcoCooling units were installed at the site, giving Herman Miller complete zonal control of the air temperature and humidity levels in the assembly and manufacturing areas at all times. This was ideal for the factory setting which had hot spots that required more cooling than other areas.
With the need for an all-year-round solution, the EcoCooling units were installed as part of a wider air handling system that allowed for evaporative and fresh-air cooling during summer and the recirculation of fresh air in the winter months.
The cooling solution has improved the working environment for Herman Miller’s employees via zonal temperature control. It has also delivered energy savings for the company as the evaporative cooling solution is a completely natural, and therefore low-cost way, of producing refreshing cool air.
With the running cost being just 10% of traditional air conditioning, the operational cost is around just £3.15 per hour for the site, which has provided Herman Miller with notable yearly savings.
