Queensway-based Dunphy Combustion Ltd has recently completed a state-of-the-art, carbon neutral energy installation for a major dairy and cheese-making factory in Wels, Austria. Landfrisch Molkerei GmbH approached Dunphy to design a high-efficiency combustion solution for its industrial boilers, using process by-products as fuel.

The touch screen control system ensures safe and immediate management of each fuel through a dedicated control channel. The axial air flow burner achieves a high turndown ratio, helping to maintain fuel flow temperature within 1°C irrespective of load requirements.

Company chairman, Malcolm Dunphy, explains: “We have a great deal of experience in designing and manufacturing carbon-neutral combustion systems using brewery and other food wastes as well as various recoverable organic sludges. Once we had tested samples of the whey-based fuel in our Rochdale labs, we were able to design and build a burner which would operate efficiently within the very specific viscosity, particle and calorific values of the two fuels.”
