Cochran Ltd have recently handed over complete turnkey installation of two high efficiency Thermax steam package boilers to Billerud Beetham, Milnthorpe, Cumbria.

Billerud Beetham who specialise in producing different types of packaging and paper for industrial use including grease-resistant paper for fast-food industry and paper that can be sterilised for medical applications were looking into replacing three 40 year old boilers with two new steam boilers capable of integrating with an additional Cochran Thermax and Ruston Thermax boiler choose Cochran Ltd to provide total turnkey installation.

When Billerud were considering companies to undertake the installation of a new energy centre they wanted a company that could provide all necessary services and offer an integrated solution including supply of high efficient boiler plant, complete turnkey installation with all necessary ancillary equipment, integration of new boiler plant with retained boilers, modification and upgrade of retained steam boilers with SAFed controls for unmanned boiler house and service contract to support the products.

In Cochran Ltd they found a company that meets all those requirements, who have an extensive history in boiler manufacturing with over 140 years of providing quality industrial boiler plant with boilers being designed and manufactured in Annan, Dumfries and Galloway. 

The Cochran Thermax steam boilers are designed with fuel efficiency in mind and were complete with flue gas economisers providing Nett efficiency of up to 94% (based on BS845). Each boiler was fitted with Cochran Equinox Pressure Jet combustion systems providing Electronic combustion control, variable speed FD fans and Exhaust Gas Analysis equipment.

When considering the integration of the new steam boilers with an existing steam system, thought had to be given to the steam collection and distribution system along with correct sequencing of the four boilers particularly as the remaining two boilers were located within separate boiler houses. Therefore Cochran undertook to remove the existing steam manifold system and integrate the adjacent boiler into a new balanced steam header arrangement with new steam distribution main linking to fourth boiler. The steam manifolds and distribution system was fully designed with stress analysis, tested and CE marked to PED requirements.

In supporting the new boiler plant installed, Cochran Ltd which has a large team of Service Engineers covering the UK will provide service and maintenance for the new and existing boilers whilst supplying consignment spares to provide high level of availability from the boiler plant.

The boiler plant was delivered, installed and fully commissioned and handed over within the project programme with Cochran providing Project Management by resident Site Supervisor and supported by our experienced staff at our head office in Annan.

The final element of the project to complete the total turnkey solution Cochran undertook to remove the three redundant steam boiler plant, two oil tanks and vertical hotwell tank.
