Tiger Rack is a Doity Engineering brand which is deceptive in its technological qualities. At first glance, the racking looks like any other attractive plastic shelving system. In use, however, the anti-microbial ‘Camguard’ properties integrated into the shelf plates greatly enhance food safety levels.
In addition, each polypropylene component in a Tiger Rack installation has a smooth surface that is easy to wipe down and keep clean. It is weldless and rust-proof so it can be used in wet areas and freezers with temperatures as low as
-30°C. The shelf plates are easily removed for effective cleaning by hand or in a dishwasher.
Microbes are all around us. To grow and divide, they need a surface that is rich in nutrients. Camguard prevents this growth by slowly releasing silver ions via an ion exchange mechanism.
The silver ions bind with the proteins insides the cells of the microbes which disrupts the microbial cell’s ability to generate energy. The cells are rendered inactive and the microbes expire.
Camguard is blended into the Tiger Rack polypropylene material prior to the moulding process so that a controlled release of silver ions from the surface is regulated to maintain an effective concentration at or near the surface of the plastic shelf.
The performance of the anti-microbial is rejuvenated whenever the surface is cleaned. Camguard’s unique ability to effectively control the release of silver means that it will last the lifetime of the shelf plate.
After extensive research and testing, it has been shown that a silver-based anti-microbial like Camguard provides the best answer to inhibiting the formation and growth of microbes.
It achieves a level of sanitation and cleanability on the surface of Tiger Rack shelf plates that was previously unattainable with a shelving product.
To illustrate the acceptability of Tiger Rack in extreme environments, 60 modular shelving units were installed recently in high-grade laboratory space for chemistry and molecular biology at the new £10.5m Centre for Ecology and Hydrology research facility at Wallingford in Oxfordshire.
