Cristalerías Toro SAIC based in Santiago, Chile has produced glass containers since 1952.
   
Supplying wine pisqueras, liquor factories, food producers, pharmaceutical companies and businesses that produce cosmetics, they work with five colours of glass, former green, white industrial, dried leaves, amber and cosmetic white.  They also produce neutral glass ampoules and vials for the pharmaceutical industry.

Objective

    To cool a pressure transducer which controls the flow of water during the production of glass containers
    To dissipate 1,479 kW when cooling 280 US GPM water from 65ºC to 45ºC, in a design ambient of 40ºC dry bulb
Solution
Customised dedicated sealed and closed circuit water cooling system

The cooling system was designed so that the coolant, in this case a water mixture is continuously recirculated to avoid water loss and eliminate water costs.

The system comprised:

    Two Air Blast Radiators, each having 8 x 2.2 kW fans drawing air over aluminium finned copper tubes, each fitted with two x Digital Fan Control Thermostats

•    Hot water from the equipment to be cooled is pumped through a matrix of extended surface area tubes to maximise efficiency.  Cool ambient air is induced, or forced, across the cooling matrix of the air blast radiator and is exhausted without any contact between the air and the water.  Cooled, uncontaminated water is then returned to the equipment to be cooled

    One non-ferrous ‘Sealed’ Dual Pump Module Cu3000-D, fitted with 2 x 18.5 kW pumps (one duty, one standby).  Each pump rated to deliver the required system flow rate at a pressure differential of approximately 6.5 bar measured at the pump

•    Hot process water is drawn into an oxygen removal system.  Any transferred air is automatically separated from the fluid by purely physical means.  It is then driven out of the unit without permitting the fluid to contact the atmosphere.  The fluid passes an opening of the system expansion facility where the required expansion or contraction is accommodated.  A safety valve is fitted to release any excessive pressure.  Water is drawn into either of two pumps, one as a standby where dual pumps are fitted.  The pump creates a system flow at an appropriate pressure to compensate for the total process water system pressure drop.  A separate initial fill facility is fitted which automatically compensates for any minor system losses

    One Electrical Control Panel

•    To accommodate basic manual switching control at the lower end of the range up to fully automatic control systems at the other.  The latter may include such functions as automatic start/stop of the system, automatic motor failure changeover, thermal/pressure control of equipment, function display, alarm system, remote panel indication
