Industrial Cooling

Power out of a container

http://www.engineeringmaintenance.info/images/stories/energyst%20PR3.jpgVehicles can be rented, so can tents and even Santa Claus outfits. It's probably less well known that when air-conditioning or power-supply units are required, they too can be hired rather than purchased outright. One of Europe's biggest providers in this area is Energyst B.V., with their head office in Breda, the Netherlands.

Energyst B.V. always have the right solution available when it comes to equipment for generating electricity, refrigeration, air conditioning, or heating and ventilation. Caterpillar electricity generators start at 20 kVA and go right up to complete installations for power stations. Besides electrical generating sets, Energyst also supplies uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), transformers, load banks, switch over panels, distribution panels, and cables.

The range of offerings for refrigeration and air conditioning is just as wide, featuring both air-cooling and liquid-cooling systems. Heaters for air, water and liquid are also available. "We always supply our clients with complete turnkey solutions, and we assist them with all major processes", explains Wilco Smits, Chief Executive Officer of Energyst B.V., "but first we carry out a detailed analysis to check what units the client needs to meet his specific requirements."

Equipment for temperature control and power generation is supplied from 21 depots across Europe. Energyst transports equipment in 20, 30 and 40-foot containers and other bespoke units.

Rental equipment companies belonging to Cat dealers already existed in various European countries before Energyst was formed. Energyst was a joint venture (2002) combining the know-how of  Caterpillar and the leading Cat dealers in Europe in order to bundle the rental business internationally, to professionalize it, and to exploit synergies by bringing all the existing rental companies together under one roof. Energyst, as an independent pan European company, is now owned by ten Cat dealers, each of them active in one or more countries.

Besides the head office in Breda, which coordinates international projects going beyond Europe, further depots are located in the Netherlands, Belgium, Great Britain, Ireland, Germany, Spain, France, Norway and Sweden.

In the Netherlands, 25 to 30 staff are employed in Breda and 60 at the depot in Bladel. Altogether more than 260 people work for Energyst in Europe under the leadership of Wilco Smits. For years now, the company has been increasing its turnover by more than ten per cent annually, and sales last year were worth 72 million euros. Some ten per cent of sales go to the Benelux countries and the other 90 per cent to the rest of Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The most profitable orders come from Great Britain, Spain, France and Germany. "We are number two in Europe in all our lines of business", says Wilco Smits.

Energyst's target customers are widely spread. They include the pharmaceutical industry, food and beverage producers, petrochemical, industry, business services, and facility management companies. Power stations, event organizers and the shipping industry are also among the clientele. Sales and support is done direct, because renting is often more technically demanding than selling permanent solutions. Energyst exhibits regularly at oil and gas trade fairs in Stavanger and Aberdeen, ensuring customer interface and developing new accounts.

For Wilco Smits, the key to Energyst's continued success is its problem-solving strategy. Another major plus is the high quality and specification of its equipment. The latest equipment is from Caterpillar for power generation, from Sullair for compressed air and from JCI (York) for air-conditioning, heating and refrigeration. The role of its highly competent and service-oriented staff is no less important. Another factor in its success is coordination between Energyst and the Cat dealers. "Integrity, diversity, solutions-oriented and passion are our values" is how Wilco Smits sums things up. "This is what we stand for, and these are the values our employees live by."

Energyst delivers the highest level of support whenever and wherever their customers need it, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. The company, which is certified in accordance with ISO 9001:2000, plans to expand its position in Europe with emphasis on large projects for supplying power to mines and public utilities. "We are looking at Cyprus and at the Greek and Spanish islands, for example, where the supply of electricity is inadequate during summer", explains Wilco Smits. "We shall be tackling this sector internationally.

" But Energyst also serves niche markets reliably and professionally. "For extracting oil and gas, the offshore industry requires generators that match up to the most stringent safety requirements", says Wilco Smits. "That's the kind of equipment we supply." All of this is further proof that Energyst CAT Rental Power is the best partner for rental solutions in the fields of temperature control, compressed air and power generation.
