Hazardous Area Weighing Advanced Webinar

Equipment and products operating in hazardous areas are required to meet stringent criteria. They must be 'protected' to avoid the possibility of them becoming a source of ignition. Weighing systems are often an integral part of a process within the hazardous area and therefore must have suitable protection.

WORLD FIRST DIGITAL CAMERA FOR THE MINING ENVIRONMENT

CorDEX Instruments, the developer of portable equipment for explosive atmospheres, has introduced another world-first.  Its new and unique Centurion XPM2 digital camera is designed specifically for use in the mining environment and brings a host of benefits.  By comparison with alternatives it removes the need for time-consuming protocol, provides far greater flexibility in use and above all makes imaging easier, quicker and more cost-effective.

The Centurion XPM2 explosion-proof digital camera combines robust construction with high image clarity.  It incorporates a 5 million pixel detector array with onboard interpolation options.  This allows image resolution to be increased to an outstanding 10 Mp.   In addition to taking still images it can also capture moving pictures in AVI format for replay with conventional Windows Media Player software.

World’s first ATEX certified 5Mega pixel digital camera with strobe flash

CorDEX Instruments Ltd., a developer of portable equipment for explosive atmospheres, releases Centurion XPG ATEX Certified 5Mp digital camera with strobe flash. The robust Centurion XP-series cameras offer best-in-class visual image capture for petrochemical and chemical applications.

The new Centurion XP series cameras support applications within Zone 1 IIC T4 type G (Vapour) explosive atmospheres and will provide users with the ability to document equipment with both still and moving images.

Buncefield Explosion

Video showing how GexCon applied the CFD tool FLACS and performed experiments to help understand the Buncefield tank farm explosion in 2005.
The work performed by GexCon clearly shows that the trees surrounding the tankfarm played a major role in causing the high explosion overpressures that destroyed a majority of the tankfarm site and neighbouring buildnings.

Certified for use Down Under

Monitran’s Group I intrinsically safe sensors are awarded ANZEx for use in mining applications in Australia and New Zealand.

All of Monitran’s Group I intrinsically safe accelerometers and velocity transducers have been approved by certification body Simtars to ANZEx for use in mining applications throughout Australia and New Zealand. This certification is in addition to the (EU) ATEX and (International) IECEx approvals Monitran’s Group I sensors already possess.

Andy Anthony, Monitran’s Operations Director, comments: “Many countries, whilst acknowledging international standards like IECEx, still impose their own standards for certain applications. We sought ANZEx in response to requests from end-users based in Australia and New Zealand, and companies based elsewhere wishing to supply machinery into these countries.”

Wellhead Control Technology

Gyda field re-development focuses on ease of maintenance and space saving. The Norwegian Gyda field, located between Ula and Ekofisk in the southern part of the North Sea, proven in 1980 started production in June 1990. Developed with a combined drilling, accommodation and processing facility with a steel jacket, the facility supplies approximately 14,000 barrel of oil per day. The Gyda field is considered amongst many, as a mature field in terms of current reserve depletion. Gyda is ideally suited to owners Talisman Energy’s North Sea strategy, which focuses on mature and small field development, with ample potential for significant new investment.
