These sensors are general purpose products that can be used in a very wide range of applications involving machines, processes and structures for :

    * investigations
    * diagnostics
    * application development

Whereas our MHC range of instruments and smart sensors is specifically designed to provide off-the shelf solutions for monitoring rotating machinery the R & D products in this section have no such restriction.  This is because these products are designed to directly output the logarithmically scaled dynamic envelope of the detected AE waveform.

Such signals are more convenient to digitise, store and further process than the raw oscillatory signal as detected by a conventional AE transducer or sensor. Analysis of such envelope waveforms can reveal signal magnitudes, durations, shapes, occurrences and timings which depending upon the application may be interpreted in terms of normal or abnormal occurrences.

However the key to their interpretation inevitably relies upon a detailed knowledge of the application and specific experience in monitoring the signals from that application. To avoid any doubt in the prospective customers mind we would like to make it clear that the gathering of the necessary data and its specific interpretation (which is the essence of R & D) is the responsibility of the customer and not Holroyd Instruments.

Wireless and wired options are available. The AE-Ultraspan wireless sensor gives you tremendous freedom to collect data on an ad-hoc basis in the field. It is quick and easy to use however you are limited to studying only one signal at a time.

The 24/7-Ultraspan wired sensors can be distributed as required and allows simultaneous multiple signals to be captured on commercially available high speed data acquisition systems (ideally at 10000 samples per sec). As the sensor is permanently installed the signal is available all day, every day.

This sensor can be used for short term investigations or long term installation. Its wireless communication allows connection to a remote PC.

AE-Ultraspan streams out the dynamic envelope waveform which can be captured and stored by Ultraspan Vu software operating in either continuous or single shot mode. Ultraspan Pro software allows even very long record lengths to be viewed, subdivided displayed in time and frequency domains. It can also convert them to .wav files so they can be played as audio through the speakers of your PC.

For the longest monitoring periods a special statistical mode within the sensor reduces the waveform to a continuous (but much slower) stream of Max, Min and Mean values – ideal for highlighting process variations.

NOTE : This product can only capture ONE signal at a time and may not be suitable for some applications. If you are in doubt then please contact the factory to discuss if this is suitable for your application.
