Vibration Monitoring

Monitran Feb PRMonitran's new hand-held meter, the MTN/VM220, is ideal for detecting the early signs of component wear or failure in pumps, motors, gearboxes and other mechanical assemblies.

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics, Farnborough, United Kingdom – Monitran, a leader in the development and manufacture of transducers for the measurement of vibration, proximity and displacement, has launched the MTN/VM220; a compact, handheld meter for measuring vibration and temperature levels.

The MTN/VM220 conforms to ISO10816-3 and is ideal for detecting the early signs of component wear or failure in machinery, motors, gearboxes, pumps and other mechanical assemblies. The meter includes a crisp, colour LCD display and has the ability to store up to 100 readings (temperature and acceleration, velocity or displacement) against a real-time clock.

Measuring just 122 x 78 x 28mm, the MTN/VM220 has an easy-to-grip, tough rubberised case and a long-life rechargeable battery. It is supplied with a probe into which is integrated a dual-output, general purpose sensor, the MTN/2200T, which has default sensitivities of 100mV/g and 10mV/oC. Also included are a magnetic base and spike (for use with the probe), a coiled cable (0.5m nominal to 2m extended) with a 4-pin Lumberg connector at each end, and a universal (battery) charger; all in a foam-lined and durable carry case.

Andy Anthony, Monitran's Managing Director, comments: "We're extremely pleased with the look, feel and performance of our new vibration meter. Also, having hinted late last year that the meter was to be launched at Southern Manufacturing & Electronics, we've already received enquiries and advance orders from customers in the UK and abroad."

The MTN/VM220 is available immediately.

About Monitran
Established in 1986 and based near High Wycombe in the UK, Monitran is a world leader in the development and manufacture of sensors and systems for vibration and displacement measurement. The company has the widest range of standard vibration and displacement products available from any single supplier and has an impressive track record of customising products for bespoke applications.

With full ISO 9001:2008 approval, Monitran's products are used for monitoring vibrations in machinery such as pumps, motors, engines and drive trains as well as in a diverse range of applications including automotive, aerospace, industrial processing, power stations and wind turbines. Indeed, the products are at home in any application where vibrations or displacements provide early indications of mechanical wear or that a structure's integrity has been compromised. They are also used in other vibration related applications, such as R&D, structural testing, equipment qualification testing and calibration. For more information please visit www.monitran.com

monitransept12aMonitran - a world-leader in the development and manufacture of transducers for the measurement of vibration, proximity and displacement – is supplying Southampton-based Griffon Hoverwork with condition monitoring systems for 12 of its Griffon 8000TD hovercrafts, ordered by the Indian Coast Guard.

Southern Manufacturing, Farnborough, United Kingdom - Monitran, a world-leader in the development and manufacture of transducers for the measurement of vibration, displacement and proximity, has added ‘smart sensors’ to its MTN/2200 product range.

The new sensors, which carry the postfix ‘1Y’ to their current part numbers, conform to IEEE-P1451.4 (Transducer Electronic Data Sheet, or TEDS) and can be interrogated by reversing the polarity of their supply voltage. Typical data that can be programmed and read back include the manufacturer’s ID, device part number, serial number, sensitivity (as set by the OEM) and calibration data.

Donald Lyon, Managing Director of Monitran, comments: “These sensors are ideal for applications where multiple sensors are in use, and where measurements are typically collected in one place. In such circumstances, the rapid, positive and unique identification of sensors is essential.”

The diffusion of vibration monitoring.

The diffusion of vibration monitoring, which in the past was only conducted in high-risk situations, has become increasingly wide.
Cal-Bay Systems announces a powerful PC based rotating equipment monitoring system for recording and analyzing machine-rotating parameters such as vibration levels and frequency, angular speed and rotational displacement.

The REMS-100 system is a cost-effective, integrated machine monitoring solution, using National Instruments hardware and ready to run software. It is supplied as a fully engineered, turn-key system. The REMS-100 base system can be also customized to meet specific customer requirements. Additional services are available for field start-up, installation and system maintenance.
Vibration Analysis Training: ISO Category I + ASNT Level I

The course exceeds the ISO 18436-2 Category I standard and meets the ASNT Level I Recommended Practice. The optional certification exam can be taken after the course.

To the savvy maintenance professional, industrial machinery almost “talks” to reveal its condition. The key to success is in understanding what the machine is saying.

A combined oil and vibration monitoring system is now available in the UK. The system enables the early detection of damage to heavy duty, oil-lubricated industrial gears, providing plant operators with a reliable system that prevents unplanned downtime and minimises maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) costs.

Industrial gears and gearboxes are critical to the smooth operation of most production environments and so maintaining these systems is often a high priority. If excess wear or damage is allowed to develop within a gearbox, this could result in secondary damage to other vital plant and machinery, leading to high repair costs, as well as costly production downtime.

The new FAG Wear Debris Monitor from Schaeffler (UK) Ltd is designed to solve these issues. This online condition monitoring system is capable of pinpointing the precise location of any damage or wear to gears, bearings and cages within a gearbox or other industrial gear unit. The system is therefore suitable for use in almost every industry sector, including wind power (gearbox drive train), marine (ship propulsion systems), oil and gas (top drives and draw works gearboxes), mining and quarrying (mills and rotary kilns), steel and aluminium (pinion stand gear units), pulp and paper (drying cylinder gears and wire drive roll gears).
