ETher NDE the Harpenden, UK-based manufacturer and distributor for eddy current products, have recently launched two new Eddy Current instruments using the USB interface to enable a standard PC to display and process eddy current signals.

Veritor is a battery-powered Eddy Current Instrument intended for manual inspection.

ViCTor is an Eddy Current Instrument, which is intended for automation applications such as component testing.

Getac UK has announced the upgrade of its ultra-rugged PS236 handheld Windows Mobile PDA, with full accreditation to ATEX (category 3 / zone 2) meaning that the device can be used safely in environments with an explosive atmosphere.
 
“The Getac PS236 is the fastest device of its kind at 806MHz and still the only handheld that is IP67 rated and a phone,” explains Peter Molyneux Business Development Director of Getac in the UK.  “This upgrade extends the market for the device from military and general field based operations to now include the gas, oil and chemical industries.”

In addition to IP67 certification, which gives a guaranteed ingress protection against dust and allows the unit to be water-proof to 1 metre, the PS236 has full MIL-STD-810G certification, which is the generally accepted standard of military ruggedisation and compliance for mobile computers and equipment.

The ultra-rugged Windows Mobile PDA comes with integrated GPS, altimeter, an auto-focus 3 megapixel camera, e-compass, hi-res display for all sorts of GIS surveying and other GPS/mapping-based applications.

Two versions are available – one with a numerical keypad and the other with a PDA keypad – and both can be used as phones.  It also offers great connectivity including full WPAN, WLAN and WWAN to offer a well-balanced combination of advanced technology, targeted professional GIS features and pocket PC convenience.

The RM100 and the RM2000 Survey Meter will detect the presence of gamma radiation. The instrument provides an indication of radiation exposure rate in uSv/Hr, with a measured value on the analogue meter scale. The meter may be supplied in two meter scale configurations depending on the model purchased.
 
The units make uSv/Hr measurements also has two further measurement modes:  ‘peak hold’ and ‘Total Dose’.  Peak mode will retain the highest value displayed on the meter scale since the function was selected. Total Dose will totalise radiation second by second to allow dose-over-time measurements. The unit will emit a ‘click’ sound each time a radiation event is detected, which may be silenced if desired. The scale may also be illuminated if required during operation.

The RM100/RM2000 also has inbuilt fault detection and status monitoring, and will warn if a fault or over-range is present or the batteries require replacement. The survey meter has a minimum of controls to enable quick and easy use.
 
Analogue Display
This provides a clear indication of the current measured reading. The current battery reserve is also indicated on the green scale section during power on. The scale can be illuminated if required by means of the ‘Mute/Lamp’ button.
