It is now possible to implement a fully wireless solution for the data gathering and analysis of critical plant and remote assets.  This session will explain how such technology is changing the way condition monitoring is applied by allowing remote critical assets, such as pumping stations and wind farms, to be monitored by highly advanced software (for example Rockwell’s eMonitor solution) without the implied cost and complexity around cabling, security and IT management.

Vince Burson & John Blackwell, Rockwell Automation

Tuesday 11 March - LEARN ZONE 2

10.30-11.00
5. OPTIMISATION OF PREVENTITIVE MAINTENANCE

A vital part of becoming successful in a reliability improvement initiative is that operations, maintenance and engineering take a partnership approach to reach sustainable improvements. This includes planning, scheduling and an efficient preventive maintenance program.

Christer Idhammar, Idcon Inc

11.30-12.00
6. WATER SAVING TECHNOLOGIES IN PUMPING APPLICATIONS

This session will address the current availability of water saving devices, from various suppliers, in the market and their potential economic benefits.   It will also outline the commercial opportunities presented by the inclusion of several such products on the Water Technology List having successfully met the criteria to enable Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) claims and will be of particular interest to those who work with process equipment -  especially in pulp and paper, waste water and other industries that traditionally have high volumes of water consumption.

(Note – Brian has requested a slot on Tuesday 11 - SOE)

12.30-13.00
7. COST-EFFECTIVE MAINTENANCE

An obvious step to achieving cost-effective Maintenance Management involves selecting the appropriate maintenance strategy. Areas often neglected include defining availability and reliability requirements, measuring performance or even identifying assets correctly. Fault & failure modes, criticality and information management should also be considered. This session will address the key stages in setting up a maintenance programme, the factors allowing measurement of cost-effectiveness and common areas of weakness companies overlook

Simon Mills, AV Technology Ltd

13.30-14.00
8. RELIABILITY – A BUSINESS CULTURE FOR MAINTENANCE

Across Europe it is estimated that direct maintenance costs is approximately 1,500 billion Euros, with consequential costs due to ineffective maintenance being around 7,500 billion Euros. It's no wonder that executive board members are now interested in their Business Case for Reliability!  In this Learn shop we will discuss:
· Potential benefits and ROI of an holistic reliability program.
· What good looks like.
· Effective culture change.

Peter Todhunter, GE Reliability Consulting & Implementation Services

13. ENERGY EFFICIENCY: WHY IS MOTOR TESTING STILL IMPORTANT

Motor testing and monitoring sometimes gets viewed as a way to “head-off” potential unplanned downtime while many other important reasons for testing, are often over-looked. Besides being a fundamental part of any Predictive Maintenance Program, motor testing can provide vital information regarding safety issues, load related problems and motor efficiency. Properly performed, routine investigations can reveal unsafe load levels, loose connections that could lead to fires, and inefficient operating conditions.

Tim Thomas, Baker Instruments Inc

This workshop will outline the key areas of the CMP program.
Jim Fowlie, SKF (UK) Ltd
12.30-13.00
15. CM COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS

It is a fact of modern (engineering) life that UK-based manufacturing processes, and the machinery and equipment needed for those processes, are being pushed to their limits by pressure from the Far East. Andy, with 13 years experience gained in maintenance management within the paper industry, explains the real cost reductions to both the company and, more importantly, the environment that can be achieved with an effective vibration analysis system in place.

Andy Anthony, Monitran Ltd

13.30-14.00
16. MACHINERY REFURBISHMENT RATHER THAN REPLACEMENT

When machinery wears, production efficiency and product quality is affected.  This seminar explores the alternative to new machinery or what to do when spares are on long delivery or no longer available. It illustrates complete turnkey overhauls and how individual components can be refurbished, increasing life and saving money."

David Scatchard, Corus Northern Engineering Services

Wednesday 12 March - LEARN ZONE 2

11.30-12.00
34. CONDITION MONITORING – IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE ALL OR NOTHING

The field of machinery Condition Monitoring (CM) is a multi-disciplinary science where a range of diverse technologies are utilised to infer mechanical condition. This can be a daunting prospect for a company wishing to introduce CM and reap its benefits.

Just as it would be foolish to get into photography by buying the most sophisticated and expensive camera on the market, so it is that a phased approach to introducing CM can enable real and sustained benefits to be gained from day one.

This approach is discussed and illustrations are given of how even quick and simple measurements can make a big difference.

Trevor Holroyd, Holroyd Instruments Ltd.

12.30-13.00
35. TRIBOLOGY: SCIENCE IN ACTION – the case for upper cylinder lubrication
